History of EMS

Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company has been providing Emergency Medical Services since 1956. Since the inception of our EMS program, we have been committed to providing the highest qualified personnel, as well as the best life-saving equipment on the market to ensure optimal care for the residents in which we serve.

Our primary Advanced Life Support (ALS) services cover Bethlehem Township, Lower Nazareth, Freemansburg Borough, and Bath Borough. We also provide ALS services in cooperation with local Basic Life Agencies (BLS) in Hanover Township and Moore Township. BTVFC assists other companies in the area such as Suburban EMS, Dewey Fire Company, City of Bethlehem EMS and Nazareth EMS when requested.

Our ambulances are equipped to provide Advanced Life Support services with a Paramedic on board every ALS  ambulance. Paramedics are trained to provide life-sustaining treatment utilizing medications and advanced medical techniques.

With our ALS equipment, we can quickly detect if a person has a heart attack in advance. We can then administer medications that are beneficial to keeping the patient stable while being transported to the hospital. Early detection and interventions allow the Emergency Department to prepare for the patient’s arrival and ultimately increase the patient’s chances of surviving.

We have medications that treat conditions such as Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, Heart Attacks, Cardiac Arrest, Heart Conditions, Pain and many others. We also have life-saving equipment that assists us with broken bones, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, breathing problems, detecting diabetic related issues.
