Ron Ford, Assistant Fire Chief 1752

Brian Kelly   Deputy Chief  1753

Brian was born and raised in Phillipsburg, New Jersey.  His family moved to Pohatcong Township the summer of 1976 to live with his grandmother while their house was being built in Saylorsburg, PA.  His family moved to Saylorsburg in February, 1979.  Brian attended the Pleasant Valley School District and graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1984.  During his junior year, Brian became interested in the fire service.  He recalls a time when he was a small child in Phillipsburg, one night lying in bed before falling asleep; he heard a siren that scared him to death.  He believes this is why he became interested in the fire service, to face his fears as a child and so no others would have that same fear.  When Brian turned 18 he became an active member of Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder, Saylorsburg, PA.

Brian’s time with Blue Ridge was a short one as he entered the United States Air Force on January 24th, 1986.  He was assigned to several locations and when permanently stationed in Maryland, he once again joined a fire company.  This time he wanted to explore this thing they call EMS (Emergency Medical Services).  Back in 1989 he joined Waldorf Volunteer Fire Company, Waldorf, MD.  He served there until the government thought it was better for him to due a tour of duty in Turkey in 1992.  Brian left the military after 91/2 years of service returning to the great state of Pennsylvania.

Brian became a citizen of Bethlehem Township after marrying his best friend in July of 2004.  It just so happened that his DJ was the deputy fire chief and that’s all it took.  Brian joined Bethlehem Township Fire Company August 6th, 2004.  He completed Essentials of Fire Fighting Nov. 2004.  He pursued his Emergency Medical Technician certification in May 2005 (EMT-B).  He holds certifications in Pro Board Fire Fighter 1, Pump Operations I & II, Structural Fire Rescue, DOH Vehicle Rescue,  Pro Board Haz-Mat Awareness, NIMS 100, 200, & 700.
