We currently have a total of 105 members including, Associate, Life, and Honorary members. Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company also employs 45 EMT’s, Paramedics, and administrative staff.

Bethlehem Township EMS will do non-emergency transports if you are a resident of Bethlehem Township. We ask that the transport be scheduled with at least 48 hours advance notice.  Since our primary concern is to provide emergency services, availability will depend on that particular day.

What types of "Specialty Rescue" does Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company handle?
Our members are trained in a variety of Rescue-Basic and Advanced Vehicle Rescues, High Angle Rescue, Rope and Rough Terrain Rescue, Water Rescue, Trench Rescue, and Advanced Trench Rescue.

What is the difference between "Advanced Life Support" (ALS) and "Basic Life Support" (BLS)?
BLS is basic care that consists of basic airway management, splinting, bleeding control. ALS is advanced care that consists of advanced airway management (i.e. breathing tube) heart monitoring, and cardiac medications.

I've heard lately about a new device called an "Automatic External Defibrillator" (AED). What is an AED?
An AED is small device that is a basic life saving device that is used to “Jump Start” your heart. This piece of equipment is carried on all the fire apparatus as well as the police units, and is now found in many public buildings, such as the Bethlehem Township Municipal Building.

No. Only in emergency situations.

What is the open burning policy in Bethlehem Township?
Whereas air pollution is detrimental to the health, safety, welfare, comfort and living conditions of the citizens of the Township of Bethlehem, it is hereby declared to be the policy of the Township of Bethlehem to protect its citizens from air pollution caused by open fires within the Township.

Township Residents may burn small quantities of household generated paper and yard waste at their discretion. Residents are encouraged to recycle as much waste material as possible and when possible use a Municipal Trash & Garbage Removal Service to dispose of household waste materials.

THE BURNING OF BUSINESS OR TRADE WASTE AND CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

What times can you burn?
From 7AM - 4PM Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays EXCEPT if such day is a legal holiday.

BURNING AT ANY OTHER TIME IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

An open fire may be set in a grill or similar receptacle, solely for cooking food, at any time.

What materials can you burn?
Paper Products in normal weekly disposable amounts EXCEPT those items designated as recyclable by provisions of the Township Recycling Rules & Regulations (e.g. newspaper, magazines/periodicals, etc)
Yard Waste in small amounts such as small tree branches and shrubbery trimmings

What materials are illegal to burn?

  • Flammable Solids or Liquids

  • Putrescible Animal or Vegetable Matter, Cooking Waste

    What isolation distances must be maintained when burning?

    The burning of Paper and Yard Waste shall take place in areas free of weeds and NOT CLOSER THAN FIFTY FEET (50') to any building, structure, wooden fence, or piled combustible materials.

    Fires MUST be attended by an adult at ALL TIMES until the fire is extinguished.

    At least one portable fire extinguisher with a minimum 4-A rating, two fire extinguishers with a minimum 2-A rating each, or other approved on-site fire extinguishing equipment such as dirt, sand, water barrel, garden hose or water truck SHALL BE AVAILABLE FOR IMMEDIATE UTILIZATION.

    Are there penalties for illegal burning?
    1st Offense - $25.00 to $300.00 fine plus court costs, or up to 90 days in jail
    2nd & Subsequent Offenses- $50.00 to $300.00 fine plus court costs, or up to 90 days in jail.
    EACH DAY A VIOLATION EXISTS SHALL CONSTITUTE A SEPARATE VIOLATION.
